Rapid Eye Movement

Howdy all. Back on for my second guest blog, it's Andy.
1986 was a great year. I spent a Friday evening and an even longer Saturday morning in November in the splintering ice cold rain. The streets of New Haven were never so cold. My buddy Neil convinced me that we needed to sleep out for R.E.M. tickets. It was a long and memorable evening. It was also my last time sleeping out for a concert. Especially now in the digital age, I never thought I would sleep out again.
On Friday, Kristin pleasantly informed me that people sleep out or at least get up really early to get tickets to the Marcia Hyland dance recital. I thought it was far fetched but then again... it could be true. Who wouldn't sleep out for great tickets for their three year old's performance? We both debated whether people actually slept out for tickets. Kristin did her best to get information from her friends and past participants. When we went to bed I wasn't 100% convinced.
If anyone knows me they realize I can sleep though just about anything. Last night I drifted in and out of R.E.M. sleep. My eyes and thoughts darted to and from the thought... You are getting up early for nothing... You overslept and missed getting tickets... You could be sleeping... You disappointed your daughter...
I woke at 6:00 AM and debated going out in this rainy day. When I ventured out a little after 7:00, I still wasn't convinced. I stopped by Dunkin donuts for a beverage and croissant. Still not sure if this was real. I was soon to find out it was surreal.
When I pulled up on the ancient dance hall, I got a glimpse of my first beach umbrella. Did I mention it was raining? Then another and another. I pulled in and saw there weren't any parking spots. I was off to the nearest parking lot. As I walked the walk of shame I came upon the endless line of folding chairs and umbrellas. Each was occupied by a father or mother anxiously waiting for their time to purchase the coveted $18.00 tickets.
Well, I guess it's true. Many parents will wait in the rain to purchase a center row aisle seat for their child's performance.
