Neuroses

Today (seeing that it's already midnight) is Lilly's first day visiting her new preschool. From 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. we are invited to stop by and meet her teacher(s), classmates, and spend time in her classroom. We were instructed to bring 3 items. One of these things has kept me up at night. The infamous (in our house at least) "rest towel" is making me insane. I believe it will be used to sit on while transitioning.

Seriously, I worry about my future as a parent. I will do my very best to act and look normal, I really will. But I do not feel normal. I feel anxious and worried about many things (remember the teachers' welcome letter?). The rest towel has kept me up at night surfing the internet for something that is 20in x 30in in size.
It is not easy I tell ya.

I had settled on a hand towel but my visit to Target left me disappointed so I came home with a blanket that was 28in x 40in. I am a rule-follower and could not let go of the fact that it was too large. I had also been told by the letter that came home and a friend, that it is not to exceed this measurement. A friend told me the teachers cut the towel she sent in to the proper size. This is what kept me up at night. What could I find that's cute and the proper size? I can't send my first born to her first schooling experience with a cut and frayed towel.

While sitting in the doctor's office with the girls last night (for the 4th time in a month because my motherly instinct was screaming that Ella was not well after her ear infection) it dawned on me that I could make a rest towel for Lilly. She had been given a tie blanket as a gift when she became a big sister and it seemed very easy to make. After confirming my suspicions that Ella was still sick with another ear infection, we headed to JoAnn Fabrics. Lilly picked out a pattern of fleece that she liked and picked out a coordinating one for her friend Lindsay who is also in her class. We then went to get Ella's second antibiotic and home to start our project.

The material: 2 pieces of fleece and scissors!
With Andy's help (numbers are not my strength) I cut the fabric to 28 in x 38 in to allow room for the fringe. I then cut out the corners and began cutting the edges into strips.
Thank the good Lord above my friend Kristen came through with some kick ass scissors for me. For the 2 hours prior to her arrival I was using really crappy scissors and my fingers were beginning to curl like claws. It was very painful. Everyone should own these bad boys.
After measuring, cutting, trimming, cutting the corners, and slicing edges I was ready to tie! I tied all the pieces into double knots.
I did all of this times two. One for Lindsay with stripes...
And one for Lilly with "polky" dots.
The final measurement came to 20in x 30in which makes me very happy. I hope that Lilly will remember we made her rest towel when she's sitting on it and following directions (fingers crossed on the directions part!).

I then printed out 3 pictures that her teacher requested and packed a bag of spare clothes for any accidents.
I'm so excited to meet Mrs. Clark and the other teachers and see her classroom. I am hoping that I can remain sane and keep any psychotic teacher thoughts out of my head during the visit. I also hope with all my heart that Lilly is excited to start school after our visit!
