This week I plan on getting caught up on the blog. I feel behind. Behind what? I haven't a clue. I just feel behind.
Last Wednesday morning Lilly woke up with a fever and threw up. These were both firsts for her. I kept her home from school and she rested all day and took a nice long nap. On Thursday, Lilly still had a fever and had developed a cough. She was acting much more perky but was definitely not herself. I took her to the pediatrician and he checked her breathing (she has asthma) and said she sounded good and she must have a virus (h1n1 anyone?). On Thursday night we made a decision to postpone Ella's 1st birthday party which was supposed to be on Saturday. While Lilly was feeling better I didn't want anyone to bring other children to our house for fear of spreading illness. I was very sad to cancel the party as I had been running around preparing for it and was excited for sweet baby girl. On Friday Lilly still had a fever but it was much lower and she was acting much more playful.
By Saturday morning I thought Lilly was well since she woke up fever-free. But around noon she told me her ear hurt. She was not crying but was adamant that it did hurt (I was thinking it was just her earlobe that she'd laid on wrong). I took her to an urgicare walk-in doctor's office and he confirmed that she did have an ear infection. He even offered me a look which was really cool. I've secretly been dying to see what an infected ear looks like since Ella's had 3 ear infections. He prescribed antibiotics and sent us home. Lilly fell asleep on the way home. It was 3:45 p.m. She didn't wake up until 5:30 a.m. Sunday morning! When she woke up today she did not have a fever and was acting like herself. By noon she had another fever.
Needless to say it's been a long 5 days and she's still battling this virus. I will be keeping her home from school again tomorrow and hope that the virus will work it's way out of her system soon.
In the meantime I have been diligently trying to keep the germs from spreading amongst our family. Ella's been hanging out and has become quite the walker in the last couple weeks. She's much more sturdy on her feet and chooses to walk more than she crawls which is fun to watch. Her walk is hysterical. She doesn't yet bend her knees very much so she walks like Frankenstein. She is very proud of herself too which is utterly adorable.
The story of pinky...
Ella is totally attached to her "Pinky." We call her blanket "pinky" because it's the same blanket that our friend Savannah has used as a lovey since she was a baby so we already knew of it as "pinky." I happened to have the same blanket that someone had given to Lilly when she was a baby. I used it to cover Ella up in her crib when she was tiny and she began bunching it up and holding it in the same hand of the thumb she sucks. We always left it in her crib as it's a large blanket and she only uses it when she sleeps. She also only sucks her thumb when 1. she sleeps and 2. she has pinky. She does not put her thumb in her mouth without pinky.
I had no idea Ella was attached specifically to this pinky. I figured any blanket she could hold would do. I have noticed that lately when I get her out of her crib from a nap she bends down and brings it with her. The other night I was washing pinky and it was not finished in time for Ella to go to bed, so I picked another blanket that we have and put her to bed. She immediately sat up and sobbed. After a few minutes of hysterics I went up and got her out of her crib. I finished washing and drying her pinky and then put her back to bed with it. She fell asleep immediately. So she is officially attached to this one and only pinky!!!
Here she is toting it around the house...

I love that our girls find comfort in blankets that they can keep forever.
